Children’s Liturgy of the Word
This program is offered during the 10:30 am Sunday Mass from the Fall through the Spring for children ages Pre-K through 3rd grade. The Liturgy of the Word celebrations are intended to form children in the liturgical language of the Church, nourish and guide their spiritual growth, and to immerse them in the Word in ways that they understand.
The structure of the Children’s Liturgy of the Word is the same as the Liturgy of the Word with the general assembly, hearing the same readings of the day as the congregation, except that one of the first two reading is omitted. The full structure is:
- Gather with the assembly
- Invitation and Sending Children forth
- Gather the Children
- First Reading
- Responsorial Psalm
- Gospel Acclamation
- Gospel – The highlight of the celebration
- Engaging Scripture Reflection
- Profession of Faith
- General Intercessions – children are given the opportunity to add their own intentions
- Procession back to the assembly for the Liturgy of the Eucharist and Concluding Rite
The Children’s Liturgy area always reflects the current liturgical season. The atmosphere is geared to children and is warm and welcoming. Parents are always welcome to sit in too!

Eucharistic Ministers are needed for all Sunday and Holy Day Masses. Schedule is done monthly via e-mail and openings not filled can be filled in before each Mass. Open to 7th graders on up. Training sessions are carried out on an as needed basis.
Contacts: Bill McGrath 667-4932; Parish Office, 667-3419
The Eucharist is exposed on the altar the second Monday of each month from 7:00-8:00 PM for individuals or families to spend time in quiet prayer and meditation. A reading and reflection are presented. Stay for a short while or the hour. Everyone is welcome to come and sit in silence with the Lord.
Home Communion Ministers volunteer to visit and take Eucharist to our homebound or nursing home parishioners. Ministers volunteer for this program several times a month (or weekly). Assignments begin with a visit to the sacristy on Sunday mornings to pick up a liturgy packet and the bulletin along with the Eucharist. This is very rewarding ministry, both for the givers and the recipients; all involved are blessed in many ways.

The music program at St. John’s involves many volunteers who provide singing and leadership in the liturgies.
The 5:00 pm Saturday Mass has two teams to proclaim the word in song for the Responsorial Psalm and the Gospel Acclamation and to help lead the assembly in song. Alternating weekends, either the choir, directed by Mark Corcoran and accompanied by Madeline Schwab on the organ, or Cantor with an accompanist will be present. (The 5:00 p.m. choir will practice at 4:00 pm before they sing at a 5:00 pm Mass.)
A Cantor, accompanied by Madeline Schwab on the organ, will be present at the 8:00 am Sunday Mass.
Bill Griffin prepares and provides music for the 10:30 AM Sunday Mass. The 10:30 AM choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 PM.
Madeline Schwab, Music Director, also provides music for funerals, weddings, and other liturgies throughout the seasons of the Liturgical Year
Membership in the choirs is open to anyone who enjoys singing and New Members are always Welcome!
